Current New Orleans Real Estate Leadership
Mark is actively involved in the top leadership at NOMAR and at the state level. He is currently a Director for NOMAR, the Board that governs all of Realtors in most of Greater New Orleans, and one of the most prominent in the country. Also currently, Mark is the Chair of NOMAR’s By-Laws Committee, the Vice-Chair of the Broker/Manager Committee and is a member of the MLS Advisory Committee.
Previously,, Mark served for several years on the Grievance Committee for several years before serving as it’s Vice Chair and then Chair, where he presided over numerous hearings of complaints filed by consumers and other Realtors against members of NOMAR. The Grievance Committee judges the merits of each complaint and determines if it should go forward to a full hearing, much like a Grand Jury. This position requires additional and ongoing ethics and professional standards training, and is an integral part of upholding professional standards for NOMAR and Realtor Associations across the United States. Currently, Mark has been elevated to the Professional Standards Hearing Panel where the actual cases are heard and disciplines may be given. He also serves now on the Appeals Panel as a member of the Board of Directors.
Recently, Mark has also been appointed at the state level to the Louisiana Realtors Professional Standards and Grievance committees.
Mark has been a resident of Mid-City, French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny. He now owns a historic barge-board home in the Bywater Historic District that was built in 1895, of which he supervised and participated in a total gut and complete renovation under the careful eye of the Historic Districts Landmarks Commission. Mark is an member of the Bywater Neighborhood Association and the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association, both of which are extremely active and integral groups in preserving New Orleans historic homes and wonderful neighborhood character, while advancing and improving our current surroundings.
In his free time…
In the devastated post-Katina New Orleans, recreation of any sort was hard to come by. In 2007, Mark began a long process of working with New Orleans City Park to bring back softball fields. In 2008, he founded the NOLA Softball League (NSL), a non-profit, co-ed adult recreational softball league that plays on Sundays in City Park. Mark served as the NSL Commissioner for several years, a strong league of a dozen teams now. Mark also founded the annual Bourbon Street Classic Tournament of 30+ teams from across North America that enjoy mild-weather and fun competition every December.
Mark is also a member of the satirical Krewe du Vieux, the Marigy/Bywater Krewe that still hand makes floats that are drawn throwback style by mules. The floats must stay under specific dimensions in order to navigate the narrow streets of the Marigny and French Quarter. Krewe du Vieux is known for kicking off the Carnival Season’s major parades in an irreverent and politically incorrect way!
Mark also enjoys photographing people, places and scenes in and around New Orleans, and has taken many photos on this site.
